I've been holding off on reporting this, due to my stumbling block. But maybe, someone can help me. I got impatient, waiting for my MS-DOS 7.10 machine (which is about ready now) and bought an Itronix X-C6250 laptop with 6.22. It's the most rugged thing I have ever seen in my life, with everything rubberised and protected. At under $80, I simply couldn't pass it up. Plus, the seller was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, even going out of his way to buy me an adapter for it. Anyway, I knew that it didn't have a floppy drive, but was unaware that it also didn't have a cd rom, because either he didn't say it or I didn't ask/ listen. It does, however, have two compact flash cards, which is great, since I could use one for my KeyNote Gold VoiceCard and another for an accessory or a compact flash card. So I took a card, loaded ASAP on it, and decided to try installing it with my Dectalk Express, using the Portspeak program, which would make my synthesizer talk. But then I remembered that I have no clue if it sees the drive at all, and if it does, I still don't know what letter is assigned to it. Is there a way for me to create a batch file on the flash card to make ASAP start from the C prompt? I'm imagining no, since I probably have to edit the autoexec.bat file on the computer itself. If that's the case, I'll get sighted help in solving this. But is there an easier way of determining the drive letter without typing a: enter, b: enter, c: enter, etc? Finally, there is a very large separation between the part of the cord that connects to the rectangle and the computer. That is, it's not supposed to be able to disconnect, but it looks as if one little pull will rip that part off the box, leaving just the part for the wall intact. The seller told me not to use it. He had not seen it, since it was shipped directly to me. Should I take his advice and try to find another adapter or can I repair the cord with strong electrical tape and use it for now? I don't want to fry the machine or cause a fire.
It seems that I can learn all about the various drives on my machine with a simple batch file!

Having said that, since this laptop doesn't have a floppy, I can't just make a basic bootdisk or start without autoexec.bat, then replace the original with a modified version, because it still must run through the compact flash! I guess, this time, I will have to try all the drive letters until one works. Then, I can install my screen reader, and this program to use in the future.
But I am still very concerned about the cord. Is it safe for me to use the machine or should I wait until I can get another adapter?
i'd not use that cord.
its not in the middle of the cord that you could put tape on it to make sure it holds and holds for a while.
Okay. As curious as I am about all of this, I don't want to be stupid and get hurt or harm the machine. I'll look for another adapter. Thanks.
no problem tiff.
